photography is a moment of embarrassment and a lifetime of pleasure – Tony Benn

Jon Gray Workshop

Posted by Richard on Sun 02 November 2008

Started with a chat from Jade on what to expect/recommend a model takes to a shoot.

Basic makeup kit
Selection of lingerie

Also what types of pictures to take for a new models portfolio

Jon then demonstrated a simple lighting setup for a headshot

Jade gave us some advice on how to get the best from your model while we were shooting

We then had a go a reproducing one of Jon’s photo’s with Jade lying on back.  this is quite a difficult pose to do without wrinkling the forehead. Jade made it look easy

Next we tried a more arty shot with some side lighting and then with a blue gel rim light

Finally a headshot with a prop

I learned quite a lot from the day

Simplify the lighting I’m using to many lights and need to move them in closer so the light modifier can do it’s job

Also better communication with the model they need to know when you are going to press the button otherwise the pose can look stale as they have been holding it too long

All in all a useful workshop just need to sort out some studio time to practise
